After a week of listening to the deluxe edition of the incredibly successful Eternal Sunshine, I’ve become fully immersed in the universe of Brighter Days Inc. It’s an expansion that not only extends the already perfect album, but adds context and depth that completely reshapes the entire listening experience in the best way possible. With the deluxe edition, every track serves a purpose. With each song telling a new part of Ariana’s story in a way that reveals more of her perspective, feelings, and evolution. Let’s break down each track and explore how each addition comes together to enrich the album as a whole.
The deluxe begins with an extended version of the already majestic intro (end of the world). The extended version features a verse that feels completely new, yet also natural and very much needed. Ariana opens up in a way that goes deeper than the original song. This track feels the rawest and most personal off the deluxe, with lyrics nodding to past relationships and the evolution that comes with breaking things off.
Intro (end of the world) – extended then hands it off to twilight zone, a melancholic yet ethereal instrumental, paired with lyrics that feel like a goodbye to a chapter of her life that was filled with profound emotion. Trying to describe this track feels impossible, as it exists in a space that’s both emotionally raw and beautifully sorrowful. Ariana’s ability to express how she’s feeling is unmatched, she shares her emotions in a way that feels completely natural to her. She manages to create something that’s not only deeply personal but also pop perfection, effortlessly blending vulnerability with a sound that feels like being lifted into space.
The next track, warm is exactly that. Warm. It feels like a musical hug, perfectly capturing the feeling of stepping into a new relationship, especially after one that ended with such emotional weight. There is a sense of safety that comes with this track, a common theme in her discography as a whole. Ariana mentions “happy tears”, and that was exactly my reaction the first time I heard it, and still is today.
The album takes an incredible shift with dandelion. It’s her most “trap” song in years, and it’s exactly what the fans not only wanted but needed. From the first listen, I was immediately transported back to Positions, but it’s a Positions Ari who has grown and evolved in the best way possible. There is a sense of confidence that radiates into the listener with this track, another skill Ariana excels at.
I don’t mean to be dramatic when I say past life is already one of my favorite tracks of all time, and it’s only been out for a week. There’s something about the strings, mixed with the modern drums, and her next-level vocals that scratches an itch in my brain I didn’t even know I had. The lyrics are personal yet somehow universal, cryptic yet entirely understandable, and they have this melodic quality that both fix and finish the emotional journey. It’s a perfect blend of artistry that feels timeless, and I just can’t get enough of it.
The album closes with Hampstead, a deeply emotional ballad that delivers some of the most gut-wrenchingly perfect lyrics I’ve heard in years. The track had me sitting and staring at the wall for hours, leaving a lingering feeling that stays with you long after the song ends. Towards the end, it shifts to Ariana’s raw, stripped vocals, offering a stark yet angelic contrast that perfectly grasps the emotional depth of the entire Eternal Sunshine era, leaving us in the most intimate way possible.
Ariana Grande is truly one of a kind. Her vulnerability and emotional intelligence is something that truly inspires me on the daily. This album will be on repeat for years to come, and I can say that with confidence cause I’ve been streaming Yours Truly for almost 12 years now. If you haven’t gave this album a listen yet, I promise it’s worth it. I’m still processing the short film that goes along with it, so be on the lookout for my words on that.
