New Releases:
I Love Boosters – Boots Riley (5.22 Theatrical Release)
I had the pleasure of seeing an early screening of this a little bit ago, and it was truly one of the most bizarrely wonderful films I’ve seen in a hot minute. I love it when a director can make a film so lively and electric, while simultaneously making much-needed critiques on society and the climate that we’re living in. Boots Riley is a genius, and you all need to get to the theater later this month to see this.
Erupcja – Pete Ohs (In Limited Theaters Now)
This has been on my watchlist since it came out, and it is finally having a Limited Theatrical release. Starring Charli xcx and Lena Góra, Pete Ohs’ Erupcja is destined to be an all-timer in my book.
The Drama – Kristoffer Borgli (In Theaters Now, 5.6 VOD)
I’ve noticed in conversation that there’s still a good number of people who have yet to see the masterpiece that is Kristoffer Borgli’s The Drama, and with a cast and director this good, it shocks me every time. Honorable mention is Borgli’s Syk pike (Sick of Myself), which is another must-see.
Classics:
She-Devil – Susan Seidelman (1989) (Prime,Tubi)
With The Devil Wears Prada 2 coming out, I had to mention this masterpiece. One of my favorite Meryl Streep performances of all time, Susan Seidelman’s She-Devil is a great way to get another Miranda Priestly fix.
Catwalk – Robert Leacock (1995) (Youtube)
Not only is this one of my favorite documentaries of all time, but it’s also the perfect film to watch before Monday’s Met Gala. You can watch it for free on YouTube, so tap in while you can.
Possession – Andrzej Żuławski (1981) (Kanopy)
Had to mention one of the best horror films of all time, considering it has sparked discourse this week, as Margaret Qualley and Callum Turner are set to star in the remake. I will touch on my thoughts about the remake at a later date, but I think you all should watch this ASAP.
