Each week, I will be recapping all the major Pop Culture moments throughout Music, Fashion, and Film/TV. I categorized them to make it easier to find the stuff you actually care about. This is the first week and is covering 9/18-9/25. If you think I forgot something PLEASE leave a comment at the end cause I very much could have and would love to add it. ENJOY! – T
Music Recap
Kicking things off with a bang, Lady Gaga is making her highly anticipated return to music with her new album Harlequin, inspired by the upcoming Joker movie dropping this Friday. She’s calling it “LG6.5” as a precursor to her seventh studio album, LG7, which is expected to release in the coming months. If anything, this should generate some buzz and hopefully draw more fans to the theaters.
Next up, Ariana Grande is back again with a series of “cryptic” Instagram posts teasing live performances. With the deluxe version of Eternal Sunshine officially confirmed, I’m hopeful these new tracks will be included. Whatever she’s planning, I know I’ll be obsessed.
Sabrina Carpenter just kicked off her Short n Sweet tour, and her setlist is everything. The stage design feels like her take on The 1975’s recent aesthetic, but I think we’ve seen enough of the whole “house on stage” thing lately. That said, I’m loving that she’s showcasing some of her lesser-known tracks.
Obviously I have to touch on Sweat Tour at Madison Square Garden. First of all it is insane to see those two selling out MSG. Second of all to bring out both Lorde and Addison Rae when I’m not in the building feels like a personal attack. With that being said, I am beyond excited to see the show this weekend and be on the lookout for a full review soon.
Lastly, Katy Perry dropped her new album “143”. Not really much to say about this one other than Pitchfork gave it a 4.5 score.
Fashion
While I’m planning on doing a whole fashion month recap, I have to touch on Bella Hadid’s return to runway and a few other things. Bella walked her first show in 2 years yesterday for Saint Laurent SS25 and seeing her walk again brought me so much joy I cannot even put it into words.
Dior has set the bar so low for themselves that I was kinda shocked I didn’t absolutley hate this new collection, I just didn’t care for it. Balmain (by Olivier Rousteing) just delivered a gorg show a couple hours ago. More on that later.
Film/TV
Ryan Murphy has dropped yet another show exploiting the trauma others have endured for his own personal gain, this time with Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story. I think creating a Netflix series on this subject is disgusting, and the way he portrayed those brothers, despite everything the public knows they went through, is shameful and ignorant. Murphy has tried defending himself, but the damage is done. I think he needs to wrap up his career, as he’s ruining whatever legacy he had left.
Jacob Elordi is set to play Heathcliff in Emerald Fennell’s Wuthering Heights film adaptation alongside Margot Robbie. He’s also starring in a Chanel commercial directed by Luca Guadagnino, again alongside Margot. Jacob seems to be booked and busy, having just wrapped filming on Frankenstein with several other projects lined up for release soon.
Luca Guadagnino’s QUEER is officially getting a limited theatrical release starting on November 27th. I’m beyond excited to see this film, and from the reviews, I just know I’ll love it (not to mention it stars Drew Starkey).
Lastly, Luca’s Challengers is now streaming on Prime Video. I did, in fact, tune in for my fifth rewatch and was thrilled to see that both Josh and Mike are being submitted for Best Supporting Actor this award season.
